Though Automation and Robotics may remove eight hundred million jobs globally in the next 20 years. A different set of jobs of interdisciplinary branches will emerge as a result of this explosive growth.

Many reports estimate that several lakhs of jobs will be lost to automation by 2020 and that number will keep growing as the industries move towards efficiency and productivity. After a successful completion of the course, the student will be able to describe how the industrial robot systems are used, constructed and operated and explain the structure and function of the robot equipment in detail, including the drivers, mechanisms and sensors. He will also be able to describe other parts of automated production methods, including process control. product flow machine safety and personal safety and describe computer-based manufacturing tools and communications in an industrial robotics network. They will be equipped to identify fundamental issues within sustainable industrial development from an automation perspective and be able to exemplify the consequences of these. implement and present a basic automation task with an industrial robot. including pilot study, online and offline programming and evaluation of the results, based on a given specification.
M.Tech Robotics and Automation – Various Types of Robots
- Cartesian robots are robots that can do three translations using linear slides.
- Scara robots are robots that can do three translations plus a rotation around a vertical axis.
- Six axis robots are robots that can fully position their tool in a given position (3 translations) and orientation (3 orientations)
- Redundant robots can also fully position their tool in a given position. But while 6-axis robots can only have one posture for one given tool position, redundant robots can accommodate a given tool position under different postures. This is just like the human arm that can hold a fixed handle while moving the shoulder and elbow joints.
- Dual-arm robots are composed of two arms that can work together on a given work piece.
