Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is the national entrance examination conducted primarily for engineering in which more than 12 lakh students in the country appear every year. The exam is also the eligibility test for attending JEE (Advanced) which the entrance examination for admissions to the Indian Institutes of Technology. There are two papers in JEE Main – for B.Tech programmes and for B.Arch or B.Planning programmes. All is for the admission to the 31 NITS, 23 IITs and 22 CFT1s . When will the application forms for JEE (Main) be available?
The application form of JEE (Main) is generally available in online mode from December.

What is the last date to register for JEE (Main)?
The last date to fill the JEE (Main) is generally January 1. The last date to pay is generally a day after the submission date.

When will the JEE (Main) exam be held?
JEE (Main) examination will be held in offline mode in the month of April while the Computer Based Tests will be held in multiple slots later in April

I made mistakes in my application. What dates will the correction window be open from?
CBSE provides the application correction facility to the registered candidates for three to four weeks. Corrections could be done in all fields except change of exam centre and change of exam mode from online to offline.

When can we avail the admit card?
The admit card for all registered candidates will be available tentatively one month ahead of the examination.. Only registered candidates will be able to download their admit card.

What is the Eligibility Criteria to apply for JEE (Main) – General & OBC category?
The eligibility criteria for General and OBC Category candidates to apply for JEE (Main) examination are: Date of birth should be on or after October 01, 1994.  Year of appearance in qualifying examination (QE) – Candidates must have passed their class 12th exam or equivalent in 2017 or 2018. Those appearing for their class 12th exam or equivalent in 2019 are also eligible.

Number of subjects in the qualifying examination (QE)Candidates must have taken at least five subjects in class 12th / qualifying examination. They must have studied Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry / Biotechnology / BioIogy / Technical Vocational subject in addition to two other subjects.

* Number of attempts – A maximum of three attempts are allowed

What is the Eligibility Criteria to apply for JEE (Main) – SC/ ST category?SC/ST category candidates will have to meet the following eligibility criteria for JEE (Main) examination: o Date of birth should be on or after October 01, 1988

*Year of Appearance in qualifying examination (QE) – Candidates must have passed their Class 12th Exam or equivalent in 2016 or 2017. Those appearing for their class 12th exam or equivalent in 2018 are eligible.

*Number of subjects in the qualifying examination (QE)- Candidates must have taken at least five subjects in class 12th/qualifying examination. They must have studied Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/ Technical Vocational subject in addition to two other subjects.

* Number of attempts – A maximum of three attempts are allowed

If I fail in one subject in class 12, can I still apply for JEE (Main)?
If you have appeared for class 12 in 2015 but failed in the subject and are appearing in 2016, you are not eligible. However if you appeared and failed in 2016 but have cleared it in 2017, you are eligible. If you have failed in 2017 and are appearing in 2018, you are eligible to appear for JEE (Main)

I am appearing for improvement in 5 subjects. I wish to know the criteria in such a case for (JEE Main)?
One best score out of two is considered.

Can I appear for improvement in one subject in class Xll and apply for JEE?Yes you can. However, it is valid if the attempt is for getting the requisite 75% in class 12. If it is to get into the top 20 percentile, then you have to appear in all five subjects.

What is the age limit for JEE? Are there any specific guidelines on the year of birth?
CBSE specifies the date of birth year with every JEE (Main) notification as well as the upper age limit. While no lower age limit is specified, only candidates who have passed

How many attempts can I make for JEE (Main)?
Every candidate is allowed three attempts provided they meet the eligibility criteria as prescribed for every year.

I am a diploma student. Can I apply for JEE (Main)?
Technically you can appear JEE (Main) but only for the purpose of qualifying to appear for JEE (Advanced). You cannot take admission in the nationally funded institutes as diploma candidates are not eligible for admissions in these institutes.

I don’t have 75% in my class XII? Can I appear for JEE (Main)?
Yes you can. However. the problem may not be with admissions.  Admissions are open only to those candidates who have qualified in JEE (Main). have 75% or more in their class 12 or are in the top 20 percentile of their board
